With sadness, we announce the death of Administrative Assistant Sharron Ekpe, who died Thursday, October 2, 2025, age 68.
Ms. Sharron served the Camden Fire Department and the city of Camden for over 20 years, beginning her career at the department on June 5, 2005. If you've ever called our department in that time period, you've almost certainly spoke with her. She also handled almost all of the department paperwork and personnel items, and always made sure we knew, "Keeping you informed is what I do!"
In addition to her duties at the department, she was constantly active in numerous community service organizations, volunteering to help make Camden and Ouachita County a better place.
Put simply: She took care of — and put up with — 28 firefighters here at the department way more than she had to or should have. We miss you already, Ms. Sharron.
In memory of Ms. Sharron, flags at the Camden Fire Department will be at half-staff through sunset Tuesday, October 7. Memorial services are pending.
