Consumer Product Safety Commission

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is an independent agency of the United States government. It was created in 1972 through the Consumer Product Safety Act. The CPSC regulates the sale and manufacture of more than 15,000 different consumer products, from cribs to all-terrain vehicles. The CPSC fulfills its mission by banning dangerous consumer products, establishing safety requirements for other consumer products, issuing recalls of products already on the market, and researching potential hazards associated with consumer products.

 

National Fire Protection Association: Public Education

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a United States trade association that creates and maintains standards and codes for usage and adoption by local governments. This includes publications from model building codes to the many concerning firefighters engaging in firefighting and rescue response. This public education link offer dozens of consumer-friendly fact sheets on a wide range of timely and important topics — like smoke alarms and home fire escape plans — that can help keep you, your family, and your neighbors safe from fire and related hazards.

 

United States Fire Administration: Outreach Materials

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) is a division of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The USFA manages many of the federal programs related to firefighting including systematic collection of statistics relating to fire incidents, public fire education campaign materials, and information on grants and funding. They also provide a directory of approved, fire-safe hotels, and information on home fire safety. This link provides educational programs along with fire safety and prevention materials.

 

National Weather Service: Little Rock Forecast Office

The National Weather Service (NWS) is an agency of the United States government that is tasked with providing weather forecasts, warnings of hazardous weather, and other weather-related products to organizations and the public for the purposes of protection, safety, and general information. The Little Rock office is responsible for providing forecasts and severe weather alerts for Camden and Ouachita County.

 

Arkansas Department of Emergency Management

The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) is Arkansas’ Homeland Security and preparedness agency. ADEM serves as the state’s coordination center for the capabilities necessary to prevent, protect against, mitigate the effects of, respond to, and recover from those threats that pose the a risk to the security of the United States.
